Developing Eco-Friendly Skin Care Formulations with Microemulsions of Essential Oil

With the rising public awareness of environmental issues, consumers are increasingly demanding skin care products that create less impact but still provide same or even greater efficacy. In arena, microemulsions have been receiving increased attention as promising delivery technology actives. Essential oils such peppermint oil, lavender oil and eucalyptus purported to excellent antioxidant antimicrobial properties could be used eco-friendly alternatives for synthetic antioxidants preservatives in formulations. This work therefore seeks develop formulations based on essential oil. Peppermint were phase formulate naringin-loaded microemulsions, which demonstrated similar better compared ones. When formulated into gel form, microemulsion-gel showed enhanced stability release profile over their unformulated counterpart. Hence, developed this conferred a 4-fold benefits formulations: (1) improved (membrane permeation) active, (2) (3) an alternative antioxidant, (4) self-preserving system.
